Spine Surgery

Spine Surgery :

Mr. Bakri, age 37, graphic designer by profession from Egypt had a spine fracture as a result of a high velocity car accident, he was brought to an emergency department of Vikram Hospital in a very critical stage, and initial assessment showed he had a head injury and fractures in spine at multiple levels. It was clear after initial stages of examination that he was in great need for better nursing care and good physiotherapy with early ambulation if he was to improve quickly. For a patient like him with high energy trauma, broken spine, the main hindrance to recovery was his spine fracture. At this point, our consultant spine surgeon, “Dr. Amrithlal Mascarenhas” counseled the patient and his family about the benefits of surgical stabilization of the spine fracture after a detail evaluation of his condition.

Dr. Amrithlaloperated him using minimally invasive procedure, percutaneous pedicel screw fixation and was able to minimize the potential tissue damage by using small incisions created for pedicle fixation technique. This technique has the added benefit of leaving minimal scar, thus rendering it a cosmetically beneficial procedure with almost no blood loss. Percutaneous fixation can help in stabilizing the spine fractures and has proved to be of great advantage in Mr. Bakri’s case, as he can now walk like any other normal person and perform day-to-day activities. All this happened within a couple of days after the surgery. Watch Mr. Bakri’s video after his surgery, he is happy to get back to his family in Egypt who could see him laughing and smiling again!
